I was wondering about the thoughts of cold or rust bluing fittings? My thought would be that you still need to show a good finish quality. I'm hoping to test this summer if all goes well.
Thank you Gilbert
Hello Gilbert,
Do be aware that there is a prohibition against primitive finishes so if you do a rust blue be certain that it is a rich and completely uniform patination to distinguish it from something more rustic or primitive.
Thank you Kevin. Good point about the rust bluing. I do like the look but maybe not worth the risk.

Kevin R. Cashen, Two questions with this concept. #1) is Birchwood Casey, Westlake Market Perma Blue Gun Blue Bottle something that is acceptable to use on knives for the test? #2) Would you recommend against any finishes on knives for the test due to the scrutiny? Basically the advice I have heard is go over the top simple so that nothing can detract from your blade work alone.
I have heard from Ed Caffrey that he uses Gun Cote on carbon blades and Damascus, and I can guess I could keep all the knives well oiled by keeping them in a de-humidified gun case, but I think this information would be good to know.
Respectfully and Godspeed,
