Finished up final touches on this chef knife today, coffee finish and final handle polish I used thuya, bronze african blackwood.Blade measures 8 1/4x1.84x.0725 at heel. Then I cleaned up the glue from inside my frame handle because I like making things hard on myself. I'm pretty happy with my rust blue finish.

This was my first try, here's what I did steam with solution scrub, steam scrub apply solution steam repeat. I tried covering and leaving it open.

When you say "steam with solution" do you mean heat the solution until it simmers and hang the piece in the pot?

Here's what I did last go round two vessels one with a couple inches of tap water for steaming just under a simmer , the second full of distilled water at a simmer or low boil . I stick my clean prepped piece in the water take it out apply the bluing mixture allow to dry then hang in steam tube. I'm experimenting with when to remove the work piece then into the water for a few minutes then clean/card the piece. Then back in water, solution ,dry then steam, boil, clean, repeat. This could be much longer if I had more than two sessions under my work belt.

I recoated the lining on my welding forge. We lost power for several hours  in a storm that dumped 6 inches of water on us, so it was a perfect time to do something that didn't require power tools!

Finished up my 3rd hidden tang knife today... It's progress, but I made a ton of mistakes! Anyone have feedback on some good classes out there?

So what were the big mistakes and what do you think you need to learn how to do better?

We finally took a break from putting down the new tile flooring...600 square feet down, 150 more to go!

We took a shop day and I spent most of it making steel dust.

In anticipation of actually making a fluted handle, I made one of these layout jigs. Thanks to Kyle Royer MS for the wheel pattern and tool design. One side of the wheel is for 8 flutes. The other side is for 6 flutes.
