I have come to realize that my leather working skills are severely lacking. So, today, I was working in the shop and stressing about sheath making. I decided to give some wooden sheaths a shot.

Just another route to take. I pinned the wooden loop with some 1/8 inch pins as if I was putting scales on a knife to strengthen it.

I do like those Chad. Somewhere on this forum is a tutorial by Karl Anderson on wooden sheath making. There are also other ways to do the belt loop with a much thinner piece of wood or antler lashed to the wooden body with lacing. This was a popular method in the early medieval -Viking era. I have a photo or two of the style. I will see if I can find it for you.

Thanks, I will look for the other thread. I plan on changing things up for the belt loop/ clip. Those three are kind of prototypes that I whipped together in about 2 hours.

And a fine job you did in that 2 hours.

Here is one on a sword. It's a very elaborate piece of work, (I couldn't find the simpler ones) but I just want to show you the idea of making a curved and skinny loop fastened to the wooden sheath with lacing or cord.
