So I did my first test with the burner I made. First shock, it lit. Second shock, the flame actually didn't look too bad. I looked at several different designs and just kind of mixed up what I thought were the best features that I could piece together from parts that I may or may not be able to find. I know I could have bought one already made, but part of the fun was designing and making it. I still have to replace the tip with a piece of flared stainless pipe. Any ideas for creating a gradual flare on the end of SS? That stuff is hard!

It's definitely fun making your own stuff. As for the burner flare, you might look at buying one. I think there are several places that sell turn-Zoeller forge is one place. Maybe some of the other guys have ideas on actually making one or other places to get them. I will say that in my humble opinion, a flare isn't absolutely necessary. I don't have any on mine and have seen others that don't either. That being said, I could be missing out on some efficiency or other benefits...? Good luck and keep us posted.

Looks good, it is fun making these. I remember I was suprised when my first burner lit too. I have always used plain steel for my flares and I just replace them more frequently. I can't find stainless pipe here. To form the flair I heat it and put it around a solid round steel bar and the graduallt pound around one end. For stainless I would think the same thing will work. For a perfect flair buy one. The other thing I would suggest is instead of a series of holes cut them into slots. I think this would give you better air intake. You will also want a choke to control the type of flame. Good thinking with the larger diameter for the air intake, should give the potential for more air, (hotter) than a straight pipe burner. Good luck -Justin

I make my flares over the horn of the anvil and they work fine. I cut the pipe to length after the flare is formed. Nice looking burner, you gotta be happy with how that turned out.
