Central States Hammer-In Demonstration Schedule

Ozark, MO - The Finley River Park - Saturday, September 9, 2017

For the first time the state custom knife organizations of Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma & Arkansas are combining efforts to put on a hammer-in & knife show which will become a traveling event to be held in each of the four states every four years. This year it will be held in Missouri at The Finley River Park in Ozark, MO on Sept. 9, 2017 (Sat).

This park is located along the Finley River by downtown Ozark, Mo and is a very scenic & picturesque location with a quite large pavilion building which will host the event. This hammer-in will include a knife show from 9am to 4pm with knives from many top makers available for sale followed by a cutting competition as well as demonstrations from 9am to noon and from 1pm to 4pm.

The demonstration schedule is as follows:

9am-10am

Designing Slip Joint Folders--Steve Culver,MS

10am-11am

Forging a Hunter--Jim Crowell,MS

11am-11:30am

Tapering a Full Tang--Ron Newton,MS

11:30-Noon

Grinding & H/T'ing a Hunter--Paul Brown

Lunch Break--Noon to 1pm

1pm-1:30pm

The Perfect Plunge Cut--Ron Newton,MS

1:30pm-2pm

Grinding a Push Dagger--Jim McGuinn

2pm-3pm

The History & Theory of Damascus Steel (Wootz to Present)--

Gary Mulkey

3pm-4pm

Forging Integral Blades--Ray Kirk,MS

This shapes up to be a very informative & fun day this September. Whether or not you are a member of the four state organizations, I hope that you will support this event by attending. I'm confident in saying that you will enjoy the day as well as learn a lot from this great schedule of demonstrators. There will be food service available on site and Chuck Ward Photography will be available there for any wanting knife photography done.

The admission to the event will be free to the public. If you should want a table at the knife show please contact me as soon as you can as there will be a limited number of tables.

All my best,

Gary

Thanks, Dan. My plan is to help get this off the ground in this it's inaugural year and then to turn the event over to the younger crowd for future years. Hopefully it will become an event that will pass on the skills of our trade for many years to come.
