Does anyone know of any ABS certified schools where I could take classes on the west coast? I'm new to the forum and was looking into school options and so far it looks like everything's on the east coast.

There's an ABS hammer-in down in California and some ABS smiths in the west that teach classes. But, as far as I know, there are no actual ABS classes offered like those in Arkansas or the NESM that would take a year off for testing for JS.

The American Bladesmith Society, Inc is a 501c3 non profit organization dedicated to education and the revival of the art and craft of the forged blade.

Texarkana College (Washington, Arkansas), Haywood Community College (Clyde, North Carolina), New England School of Metalwork (Auburn, Maine), Southern Ohio Forge and Anvil Bladesmith School (Troy, Ohio), La Forge d' Ostiches (Ostiches, France), and Heavin Forge School (Belfast, South Africa) offer American Bladesmith Society approved Bladesmithing courses taught by experienced Master Smiths.

The ABS also sponsors weekend Hammer-Ins and Youth Programs throughout the year in different regions of the United States including the ABS California Hammer-In in Tulare, California every October. There is no School on the west coast that offers ABS approved Bladesmithing classes.
