Wanted to let folks know that I’m currently on the disabled list.

Yesterday, while on my way into town on the scooter, the bike suffered a mechanical failure of somewhat epic proportion. According to witnesses (and I don’t actually remember what happened, so we have to rely on them), something in the front end failed catastrophically causing the bike and me to careen across the road, through a stop sign (breaking it neatly into 3 pieces), and launching me across the handlebars and along the road.

My safety gear did its thing and protected me pretty well. Aside from assorted smallish scrapes & bruises (I’ve actually had grinder accidents that looked worse!), I broke my right collar bone. And, yes I am right handed!

So, while I’m pretty sore and bruised, doctors say that I’ll mend and be able to play the violin again.

For the near term (3 to 4 months), my bladesmithing will be limited to my head and sketchbooks.

Thanks all.

Holy smokes Geoff! Glad you're ok (more or less). I'm guessing that means you'll have lots of time to post lots of photos of your work and pontificate profusely with many posts as to how to go about making knives and become an ABS Journeyman Bladesmith?! Be well, Phil

Sounds like bladesmiths fly just fine, they just don't do landings well. LOL!!! <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmiths.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//laugh.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Hope that you heal quickly and have no problems from the mishap.

I agree with Phil. Let's see some photos, hear some tips and get some advice from you while you recouperate!!

Regards,

Hey Geoff...

Sorry to hear about your accident!

I have had that same injury (broken right collar bone). Mine was broken in a collision of a different sort though... playing "touch" football. I feel for you. All those things that you don't even think about that you do with your right hand, from writing to washing your hair or putting on deodorant. It all becomes a new learning experience. It was a long time ago, but I remember it only taking about 6 weeks to heal. Did you have to have surgery on it or are you just getting older like me? Everything seems to take twice as long to heal now that I'm approaching 50.

Take care!

Rick

Today is the first day I've been able type two handed, speaking of things that you don't think about. It'll be 2 weeks tomorrow, so I think I'm doing OK. The Doc din;t suggest surgery, it pretty much has to be poking though into open air before they do a surgical reduction anymore. I was just thinking that I need to start the prelim work on my MS run just before I got hurt, so this is gonna set me back a bit, I've been spending my time (when not in a drugged fog) doing some design work, but today was the first time I was able to get anything on paper, sigh....

Thanks for all of the encouragement guys.

Geoff
