Hello folks! Just a quick introduction here- My name is Darrell Sweet and I live in Cody, Wyoming. I started forging blades about a year ago and so far.........am self taught. I hope to seek out some masters to take classes from soon. I started in the art field as a sculptor of limited edition bronze western and wildlife and ended up working in a foundry producing said bronzes. From there it was a leap to blacksmithing and then to blades. I try to use my background in the arts to make asthetically pleasing and functional knives. Anyway, I hope to be more active in the ABS community and have been pouring over the wealth of info on this site already.

Darrell

Welcome to the American Bladesmith Society and the ABS Forum. I am sure that we can also learn some techniques for working with bronze from you.

Welcome Darrell,

You live in one of my favorite areas. Visited Cody 5 years ago, and didn't want to leave! Nice website, too!

Good Luck on Your Journey!

Great to have you, Darrell!

Sharp looking website <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//cool.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' /> I've always been fascinated with the "lost wax" method. Is there a way myself and others could create some guards or fixtures using the basic equipment we have (forge, anvil, grinder, kitchen oven)? I smell a tutorial <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//rolleyes.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Thank you all! All I can say is that the more blades I ruin, the more questions I'll have <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//biggrin.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> As for casting bronze, it can be done on a small scale. I'll have to post some tutorials on casting when I get the chance! Hopefully soon.

Thanks again!
