Cut & Stack Outcome

A while back I started a thread on adding some 15N20 between the cut & stack layers when welding a Damascus billet and finally got some made that way. This steel started with 11 layers of 1/8" 1084 with 10 layers of .065 15N20. I then cut it into five pieces for a cut & stack and added some .065 15N20 between each layer giving me 109 layers. It was then cut & stacked again (with no added 15N20) into three pieces giving a total of 327 layers.

It welded fine and as you can see it added some extra thick layers of the 15N20 to the pattern. I probably won't add the extra nickel/steel to my cut & stacks every time but it did give it a nice touch to the pattern with the varying thicknesses of nickel/steel.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Gary

I like that Gary. I have done exactly the same sequence before and will again I'm sure.

Thanks, Lin. I have used different ways of getting varied thicknesses of materials for both random & W patterns more recently. I have been pleased with the look of it and glad that others like it as well.

I appreciate your input.
