Hi everyone,

Here is a recent tomahawk I finished and really enjoyed working on this piece. To start with I used the forge press to press out the head of the spike and then finished it with just a 3lb hammer. I just used a simple hot punch for the whole for the metal rod 3/4 steel rod. For the gaurd I found an old nail about a year ago metal detecting,(I honestly have no clue how old it is could be new and just rusted for all I know)i heated the nail in the forge and twisted three different directions and then I used my good old trusty miller mig welder to attach it. I also mig welded the spike unto the 3/4 rod as well. Now, I know this could have been done by forge welding but I'm not that good at that yet and would not trust my forge welds enough yet to sell them to a customer, but I do try and forge weld at least once a week for practice. So, I will appreciate any comments on my work and will also appreciate any ideas and suggestions you have, I love trying new things as you can probably tell if you have seen my knives, some new things work and some don't,LOL! Sorry, I could only get these to pictures to upload.

Thanks,

Jonathan S. Johnston

Looks like a formidable weapon Johnathan. Some creativity there and that is essential. Keep practicing your forge welds and pushing your skills to new levels. <img src=' http://www.americanbladesmith.com/ipboard/public/style_emoticons//smile.gi f' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
