Milling Depth For Guard

When milling the shoulders for the guard, what is the minimum depth that will work?

On a 1" wide ricasso, I mill my shoulders 1/8" on top and bottom.

But what the "minimum" is will depend on a lot of other factors.

I agree with Karl in that "minimum" has too many variables to even guess. I would venture to say that the "minimum" would be the least you can get away with for the particular knife design.

Thanks Karl! 1/8” is what I have been doing on most knives.

Thanks Karl! 1/8” is what I have been doing on most knives. What diameter mill? 1/8 or 1/4”?

I do that with an 1/8" end mill.
