Mosaics--A Different Technique

For some time when making a mosaic Damascus I have relied on using either a tile cut or an accordion cut to get the pattern to show. Recently I have been experimenting with 90 degree butt welds in a canoe for this with some very good success. To do this I have sliced 1/2" pieces off of the end of the mosaic billet. Part of these I have cut corner-to-corner to give me triangular pieces and aligned them like this:

(the white on the inside of the canoe is white-out which seems to work best for keeping the canoe from welding to the billet)

This technique probably isn't new to some here but for me has opened the possibility of many new patterns in my steel.

Great technique and great looking Damascus, I will have to give this a try.

Gary, I always enjoy seeing how to make a deferent style of Damascus. As for your final product, WOW, THAT'S A WONDERFUL LOOKING KNIFE.
